Lightweight ice-class vessels offer the possibility of increasing payload capacity while making them comparable in energy consumption with non-ice-class during ice-free periods. We approach development a lightweight hull by dividing ice–hull interactions into quasi-static loading and impact phases. Then, investigative outcomes concepts for each phase may be combined to develop ice-going hull. In this study, we focus on characteristic thin first-year ice inland waterways. investigate metal grillages, sandwich structures stiffened parametrically using finite element method. The model is validated previous experimental studies. total over 2000 cases are investigated strength stiffness respect mass. was found most favorable concept that offered both light weight as well high gross tonnage.
